Chennai — For generations, silver has been woven into the fabric of Indian households—present in rituals, celebrations, heirlooms and everyday living. Today, as consumer preferences evolve and appreciation for artisanal craftsmanship grows, heritage jewellers are giving the metal renewed prominence through elevated retail experiences.

Reflecting this shift, Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers (VBJ) has unveiled a new Vummidi Silverware showroom at Anna Salai, Chennai. Adjacent to its existing silver store, the new 8,000 sq. ft. destination brings together an expansive collection of silver jewellery and silverware, reaffirming the brand’s century-old relationship with the metal that first shaped its legacy.

Established in 1900, VBJ began its journey with silver long before becoming one of South India’s most recognised jewellery houses. The newly designed showroom pays homage to those origins while presenting silver through a contemporary retail lens, offering customers an environment that combines heritage with modern shopping experiences.

The showroom features an extensive assortment of sterling silver jewellery alongside handcrafted pooja articles, dining collections, home décor, wedding essentials, gifting solutions, collectibles and bespoke creations. Designed as a comprehensive destination, the space caters to both traditional and contemporary lifestyles while highlighting the versatility of silver across generations.

Silver is where our story began, and this new showroom is a tribute to those beginnings,” said Jithendra Vummidi, Managing Partner, VBJ. “While we have continuously evolved over the decades, our commitment to preserving the artistry and relevance of silver has remained unchanged.”

Amarendran Vummidi, Managing Partner, VBJ, added that the expanded showroom has been designed to offer customers greater choice and a more immersive retail experience by bringing together the brand’s complete silver portfolio under one roof.

The launch builds on VBJ’s broader legacy of preserving Indian craftsmanship. The fifth-generation family business is widely recognised for recreating the historic Sengol, which was reinstated in India’s new Parliament building after extensive historical research by the company. VBJ is also preparing to open its largest jewellery showroom on Coimbatore’s 100ft Road, further expanding its retail footprint.

Beyond the Headline

For much of the last decade, conversations within the jewellery industry have largely centred around gold and diamonds. Quietly, however, silver has been experiencing a renaissance.

Today’s consumers are embracing silver not only for its affordability but also for its versatility, craftsmanship and growing relevance in contemporary interiors, gifting and everyday adornment. Heritage brands are responding by transforming silver from a category often tucked away within larger jewellery stores into a destination in its own right.

VBJ’s new showroom reflects that evolution. Rather than treating silver as an extension of its business, the brand has chosen to celebrate it as the foundation of its identity. The move underscores a wider industry trend: as retail becomes increasingly experience-led, storytelling around heritage is proving just as valuable as the products themselves.

In an era where authenticity carries growing significance, silver’s enduring appeal lies not only in its intrinsic value, but in the cultural memories, craftsmanship and traditions it continues to preserve.
