Mr Bakul Limbasiya Conferred APO National Award for Contributions to the Lab-Grown Diamond Sector

Mr Bakul Limbasiya, Founder of Bhathwari Technologies, has been conferred the APO National Award, a national-level honour recognising individual contributions to productivity, innovation, and leadership in India.

The award is instituted by the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) and administered in India by the National Productivity Council (NPC) under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India. It is regarded as one of the country’s key recognitions for advancing productivity and competitiveness across sectors.

The recognition comes at a time when the lab-grown diamond sector continues to expand its role within India’s gem and jewellery industry. The conferment also marks the sector’s growing economic and strategic relevance. In the past, the APO National Award has been presented to industry leaders such as Mr Anil Naik of Larsen & Toubro and Dr Verghese Kurien.

Mr Limbasiya has been associated with the lab-grown diamond industry since 1998 and is credited with producing India’s first lab-grown diamond in 2004. His early involvement contributed to the development of what has since evolved into a technology-driven and export-oriented lab-grown diamond ecosystem in India.

Through his work, Mr Limbasiya has been involved in advancing diamond-growing technologies, productivity standards, and manufacturing practices within the sector. His contributions align with India’s broader focus on technology-led manufacturing and sustainable growth.

Commenting on the recognition, Mr Limbasiya said, “This honour reflects the collective efforts of India’s lab-grown diamond community. The sector represents an intersection of technology, sustainability, and value creation, where India is well positioned to play a leading role.”

The award highlights the ongoing transformation within the diamond ecosystem, with lab-grown diamonds emerging as a source of employment generation, export growth, and technological advancement.
