India’s platinum jewellery category is entering a new phase of growth, with greater emphasis on everyday wear, self-purchase and changing consumer lifestyles.

These themes emerged at the Platinum Buyer-Seller Meet 2026, organised by Platinum Guild International (PGI) in Kochi, where manufacturers, retailers and industry stakeholders came together to discuss the category’s future and the strategies expected to shape demand over the coming years.

Rather than focusing on a single consumer segment, PGI outlined a broader category-building approach designed to expand platinum’s relevance across multiple purchase occasions.

The strategy centres on three consumer platforms: Platinum Evara, aimed at strengthening platinum’s appeal among women through self-purchase, gifting and everyday jewellery; Platinum Love Bands, which continues to focus on commitment and wedding jewellery; and Men of Platinum, which seeks to expand the men’s jewellery category with contemporary designs for both occasion wear and everyday styling.

A recurring theme throughout the discussions was the changing behaviour of younger consumers. Increasingly, jewellery is being chosen as a form of personal expression rather than solely as an investment or ceremonial purchase. This shift is encouraging brands and manufacturers to develop lighter designs, contemporary styling and collections that fit naturally into everyday wardrobes.

PGI also highlighted several initiatives expected to support category growth in the coming months, including creator-led styling for women’s collections, a new Platinum Love Bands campaign ahead of the 2026 wedding season, and continued expansion of men’s platinum jewellery.

Technology is also expected to play a larger role in the category’s evolution. PGI pointed to the potential of Inoveo, an AI-enabled platinum alloy, to support new manufacturing techniques, improved durability and greater design flexibility for machine-made jewellery.

Market Insight

Unlike gold and diamonds, platinum remains a category that is still being actively built rather than simply expanded.

Its future growth will depend less on price movements and more on creating new reasons to buy. Self-purchase, modern relationships, men’s jewellery and everyday wear are emerging as some of the category’s most important growth drivers.

For retailers, this represents a shift from selling platinum as an alternative precious metal to positioning it as a lifestyle choice supported by contemporary design and distinct consumer occasions.

As consumer preferences continue to evolve, category-building initiatives that connect design innovation, retail readiness and targeted marketing are likely to play an increasingly important role in shaping platinum’s place within India’s jewellery market.
