Where Craft Meets Conversation: VBJ Brings Fine Jewellery to the IGNITION 2026 Stage
Date: 03.07.26
Chennai — Luxury jewellery is increasingly finding its place beyond the showcase. It is entering conversations around culture, creativity and identity, becoming part of a wider narrative that extends beyond adornment. Reflecting this evolving role, Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers (VBJ) partnered with IGNITION 2026, the thought leadership platform presented by the Shiv Nadar Foundation and curated by journalist Shoma Chaudhury, bringing together influential voices from diplomacy, cinema and global affairs alongside the language of fine craftsmanship.
Hosted at ITC Grand Chola in Chennai, the evening featured conversations with Dr. Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader, actor Ali Fazal, and former Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale, whose discussions explored geopolitics, storytelling and the changing global order.
Against this backdrop of ideas, VBJ presented PARRO – The Signature Parrot Collection, a jewellery line inspired by one of nature’s most symbolic and vibrant creatures. Translating the elegance of the parrot into contemporary fine jewellery, the collection combines intricate detailing with modern silhouettes, reflecting the house’s enduring commitment to craftsmanship rooted in heritage.
“IGNITION has established itself as a platform where influential voices come together to spark conversations that shape perspectives,” said Amarendran Vummidi, Managing Partner, VBJ. “At VBJ, we believe that meaningful ideas and enduring craftsmanship both have the power to inspire generations.”
Echoing the sentiment, Jithendra Vummidi, Managing Partner, VBJ, described the PARRO collection as an expression of artistry that honours tradition while embracing contemporary lifestyles, making IGNITION a fitting setting to unveil the collection.
For more than a century, VBJ has been recognised as one of South India’s heritage jewellery houses. Established in 1900, the fifth-generation family business continues to expand its legacy through retail, design and manufacturing, while also strengthening its international presence following the opening of its Dallas showroom in 2023. The company is also preparing to launch what it describes as its largest jewellery showroom on Coimbatore’s 100ft Road.
Perhaps most significantly, VBJ’s association with the historic Sengol, reinstated in India’s new Parliament building after extensive historical research by the company, continues to reinforce its longstanding relationship with India’s cultural heritage—a legacy that extends beyond jewellery into the preservation of national craftsmanship and tradition.
Beyond the Headline
Luxury brands are increasingly choosing to participate in cultural conversations rather than simply sponsor events. For jewellery houses in particular, platforms such as IGNITION offer an opportunity to position craftsmanship alongside art, diplomacy, literature and design—spaces where ideas hold as much value as objects.
VBJ’s presence at IGNITION reflects a broader shift within luxury branding. Today’s heritage maisons are no longer defined solely by exceptional jewellery; they are equally recognised for the worlds they create around their craft. Whether through exhibitions, intellectual forums, cultural collaborations or design-led experiences, jewellery is becoming part of a richer narrative—one where craftsmanship is appreciated not just as a product, but as a form of cultural expression.
For the Indian jewellery industry, collaborations like these signal a growing confidence in presenting jewellery as an integral part of the country’s creative and cultural landscape rather than limiting it to the traditional retail environment.
